Shaker Village Diagram
Original hand-painted watercolor on canvas by artist and close friend of the Shakers, Sister Karlyn Cauley. This “boot” or stocking is lined with oatmeal cotton canvas and signed by the artist.
Known for her Shaker-style art of “Gift Drawings”, the boot is open at the top cuff for storing lightweight gifts and items. This art work replicated the Shaker diagrams that were painted for insurance purposed of fire, property lines, and recording building additions done by the Shakers.
Sister’s diagrams are small views in which roads, ponds, sheds, barns. fields, and wooded property are visible. The cuff of the boot shows some spiritual values such as peace, direction, sun/moon, gardens, compasses, etc.
Measures 15″ x 7″. You will receive the exact painted stocking pictured here. A one-of-a-kind piece titled “Shaker Village Diagram” featuring woods, field, gardens, the pond, pasture, and wood shed.
Sister Karlyn Cauley has been a member of the Sisters of the Divine Savior since 1961 and is well known in the U.S. as a folk artist of “Shaker Gift Drawings” for her original watercolors, prints and note cards. Her folk art has brought awareness to the need for simplicity in our lives and homes.
