These are very popular brooms for us and hard to keep in stock! These dyed full-sized flat brooms are handmade by Brian Newton of Broomcorn Johnny’s in Vermont. Each broom is handmade with a hand-dyed outer layer of premium grade broom corn, stitched with color thread, and have hand rubbed finished American hardwood handles.
These “Shaker Style” soft shouldered flat brooms are handcrafted on original 1800’s broom making equipment by a seasoned, full time professional artisan broom maker, then lovingly stitched by hand, inside and out. Perfect on hard wood floors and a joy to use around the house, these brooms work very, very well. No need to hide this one in the closet! Hang it up for all to see and enjoy it for the functional art that it is. There is a reason hand crafted brooms have been highly sought after for hundreds of years, that’s because they sweep like no other! Made to use, made to last.
Broomcorn Johnny’s Colors are mixed by sight each and every time, then dyed in-house by the broom maker himself. Colors are constantly changing so each broom is unique, no two alike! Some more red, some more blue, some more green, totally random!
Brian makes brooms to sweep extremely well, therefore he does not cut the fine tips off of the bottoms of his Cabin Broom sweeps. The “fine” is what traps the dirt! Your broom will naturally wear-in an edge over time. For extra long life, store your broom with the sweep off of the floor and hydrate the brush below the stitching every six months or as needed.
Brian is an award winning heritage craftsman whose work can be found in some of the most highly regarded fine craft galleries in the nation, as well as in television and motion pictures. He teaches broom making workshops with us here at Shaker Village and we are very excited to carry his fine pieces.
