Learn the basics of needle felting wool and creating 3-dimensional sculptures with Shaker Village neighbor and friend Betsey Leslie of Ewes to You Farm in New Gloucester. Needle felting is the process of transforming wool into 3D objects using a barbed needle. When you felt wool, you’re agitating the fibers so they bond together, creating a solid fabric.
In this 1.5-hour virtual workshop broadcast from Shaker Village, we will create a felted acorns and colorful balls to turn into a garland or accent piece for your crafts. Each participant will be mailed a full kit of all supplies needed to make these needle felted cuties plus the basic tools to keep you going in your felting journey:
- (2) Felting Needles
- Plenty of colorful wool fiber hand-dyed by Betsey
- Twine to make a 4-ft strand garland
- Acorn Caps
- Foam block
Start a new tradition and add a 4-ft strand every year to decorate your tree!
Betsey is graciously donating all money from this workshop, along with donated supply kits, as a fundraiser for our Herb House Cultural Center project. Her donation, along with any that you’d like to add, will be matched by the National Endowment for the Humanities. This project, in part, will give Shaker Village expanded space for traditional arts workshops and communal events. We thank you for your support!
Friend of the Shakers members receive $5 off all workshops- join or renew today to claim your discount.
Be sure to register early so that we can mail your kit out to you in time (local customers may pick-up kits at Shaker Village.)
