In-Person Workshop

This is a beginners workshop that will teach you the basic skills needed for preparing fibers for spinning yarn. Local fiber artist Betsey Leslie will teach you how to work with wool, Angora and Alpaca. Learn to card and blend on hand carders and a drum carder. These skills will give you a chance to create dye lots and add colors to create variegated yarns that are not available at yarn stores. Learn to identify different wools by breed and crimp (curls). Every breed of sheep has a unique curl and properties to their fleece. A fun informative class on fiber, color and texture.

Consider spending the full day at Shaker Village and use your fiber to sping your own yarn skein in the afternoon Fiber Spinning workshop!

You will be using Shaker wool that was shorn from the flock in the Spring.  Optional: bring your own material to blend in or use Betsey’s.
Discount available below for those also taking the May 3rd workshop and will be bringing their own Shaker fleece.

Class size: 6

Did you know that current members of The Friends of the Shakers receive $5 off each workshop? Sign up or renew today for your discount!
