Cold Process Soap Making Workshop
Saturday, July 8, 2022
In-person, Afternoon Class: 1pm-4pm
Throughout the 1800s, the Shakers made large batches of household soap in a large vat in the Soap Room, adjacent to the Community’s Wash Room in the 1821 Sisters’ Shop.
Join Bill Miller of Parris House Wool Works to learn an easy, all natural cold process bath bar recipe. Students will be provided with all of the materials necessary, including a soap mold, to make a 2-pound loaf of cold process soap, which will produce up to 8 bath-size bars. A variety of essential oils will be used to scent batches and dried herbs and flowers from the Shakers’ historic herb gardens will be used for decoration to make lavender soap and citrus with calendula soap. Directions for cutting, curing, and testing the soap at home will be included.
There is a morning and an afternoon session. This listing is for the afternoon session.
Class size: 10 per session.
Did you know that current members of The Friends of the Shakers receive $5 off each workshop? Sign up or renew today for your discount!
